Paintball Game Variations (50)
1. Capture the Flag (CTF)
Objective - Return the opponents flag to your flag station or eliminate the other team.
Two opposing teams each try to get the enemy flag back to their flag station. Each team has a flag station with one flag on it.
2. Center Flag
Objective - Return the flag to your flag station or team elimination
Two opposing teams try to get a single center flag to the enemy’s flag station. Each team has a flag station with no flag. There is a central location where a single flag is hung.
Variation - Three teams
Three teams start an equal distance from the flag. Each team has a flag station. The goal is to get the flag to either one of your opponent's flag stations.
Variation - Rush
You need two even teams. First, you set up two tables, on each end of the field. You place all of the teams markers on the tables. Next, you have everyone stand at the center. When the ref gives the signal, everyone runs to the guns and from then on, it is a regular game. NOTE: this game has no paint limit.
3. Fox and the Hound
Objective - Team elimination.
The game has two opposing teams, the hunters and the hunted. The Fox team is given a few minute lead on the paintball field. The Hound team waits at a disclosed location until the time limit for the lead is up. They then proceed to "hunt" the Fox team.
4. Rambo
Objective - Team elimination or variant explained below.
Similar to Fox and the Hound with a couple of differences, there are either one or two Rambo’s picked. The Rambo team gets 100 paintballs. Everyone "hunting" the Rambo team gets 10 paintballs. There are two ways that this game can be played -
(1) The Rambo team tries to get from their flag station to the enemy flag station or
(2) The Rambo team is given a 5 minute lead on the paintball field. The hunters then proceed to "hunt" the Rambo team.
5. Paintburner (also called Revenge)
Objective - Play as much paintball as humanly possible in 30 minutes.
Everyone is divided into three-person teams. An entry point onto the paintball field is chosen. All of the teams go onto the field with a 5 minute cease-fire. The game begins after the five minutes are up. Your team tries to stay alive. Once a player is eliminated from the game, they go back to the entry point. Every time there are two players from any team back at the entry point, they form a new team and may re-enter the game. The game lasts for 30 or so minutes.
6. Egg Hunt
Objective - Player elimination.
No teams, everyone against everyone. All players start with no paint. Throughout the field referees have hidden plastic eggs filled with 1, 2, or 3 paintballs each. You must find an egg to get paintballs before your opponents do.
7. Commander
Objective - Player or team elimination.
Two teams each pick a commander. Each commander either wears a unique arm band, hat, or something that distinguishes him from the other players. All players are made aware of what each commander has that identifies him as the commander. Each team begins at their flag station. You win the game by either eliminating the other team's commander or by safely escorting your commander to the enemy's flag station.
8. Four Flag
Objective - Return the appropriate flag to your flag station.
Four teams each have a flag station. The flag stations should be positioned in a square shape on the field with a good distance between them. The referee has four cards (A, 1, 2, 3) of any suit from a deck of cards that correspond to numbered flag stations. The referee gives the first team captain a choice of cards. You cannot draw your own number. If you draw your own number, the card goes back and the referee shuffles them before drawing again. You do not disclose to any other team which card you have drawn. The first team captain draws a card. He takes this card along with his team back to his flag station after every team has drawn a card. The second team captain draws a card and so on until each team has a card. The referee starts the game after each team is at their appropriate flag station. The objective is to get the flag that corresponds to the number on the card and return that flag to your flag station. This game works pretty well as no one has any idea where the other teams are going until the game gets underway. Each flag station either has a referee nearby or a CO2 horn to signal the end of the game.
9. Defend the Fort
Objective - Team elimination.
One team defends a fortification or building and the other attempts to eliminate the defending team.
10. Garbage Can Lid Shield - Bored people come up with cool games.
Objective - Player elimination or CTF
Two opposing teams each try to eliminate the other team or get the enemy flag back to their flag station, depending on which game is being played. The variation in this game is that each player has a metal garbage can lid, or similar shield, going into the game. Any hits to the shield do not count as a player elimination. This game is pretty tough when trying to use a pump and the shield at the same time.
11. Civil War
Objective - Player elimination or CTF
Two opposing teams each try to eliminate the other team or get the enemy flag back to their flag station, depending on which game is being played. Each player goes into the game with no loader attached to the gun. If the loader is permanently attached to the marker, the player must still follow the rules. A player may carry as many paintballs as he wants. Paintballs must be loaded one at a time.
12. Blackjack
Objective - Player elimination or CTF
Two opposing teams each try to eliminate the other team or get the enemy flag back to their flag station, depending on which game is being played. Each player goes into the game with only 21 paintballs.
13. El Presidente - similar to commander
Objective - Eliminate the president
Variation one -
A four person game. One guy is the president. He wears a hat or a bandana to identify him. He has NO GUN. One person is the sniper and goes out in the field and finds a spot 5 minutes before the game. He only has to eliminate the president. The last two are Secret Service Agents. There job is to protect the president and eliminate the sniper. The game ends when the president or the sniper is eliminated.
Variation two -
Two teams each have a president. The goal is to get the president to the enemy flag station without getting him eliminated. The game ends when one president is eliminated.
Variation three -
One guy is prez, 2 secret service guys. The prez is unarmed; the secret service guys should be the guys with good markers, everyone else are assassins. If the prez gets hit, game over. If an assassin gets hit, game over for them. If a secret service member gets hit...so what. The only way to eliminate secret service is with a headshot.
14. The Trail Game / Suicide Mission
Objective - CTF
"The Trail Game” there are two teams and the object of the game is to get the center flag past the starting point of the other team. The game is played on a long trail with both teams starting on either side of the trail. There is a flag placed in the center of the trail. The game seems easy but there is a catch... the flag cannot leave the trail. Players must drop the flag on the trail and dive off the trail to take cover.
“Suicide Mission” is a game where every player is pitted against every other player. There are a series of flags put up all over the field. The object of the game is to have the most flags at the end of the 30 minute time limit. Depending on the number of players you should probably have 2 less flags than players. If you have less than 5 players you should have 2 more flags than players.

15. Puzzle
Objective - Solve the puzzle or elimination
You divide into two teams. The day before you play you have an unbiased person go to the field and draw three simple maps of the field, marking certain landmarks, big trees, weird shaped trees and rocks, etc. Make copies of these maps, so you end up with six maps total. Then he hides parts to a puzzle or whatever you think of in two different colored cans, one for each team, at the landmarks he drew on the maps. Also in the cans is the next map to find the next puzzle piece. The last landmark has only one can and one puzzle piece. The point of the game is to have your team find all the puzzle pieces and build whatever the object is to win the game. We thought of buying those simple lego cars that have three or four pieces in them for our puzzle, but you can use your imagination and have the puzzle whatever you want.
16. King of the Hill
Objective – Elimination or Time limit
You start out by picking two teams. One team starts at the top of a hill and the other starts at the bottom. The catch is that the team at the top of the hill has to MANUALY load the paintballs into their gun one by one. In the team at the bottom, every person gets 30 balls but they get to use a hopper. The object of the game is that at least one of the team members has to get to the top of the hill before being eliminated. Another way is to hold the top of the hill for a certain amount of time.
17. Superman/Terminator
Objective - Elimination
In superman one man preferably with a chest plate and an automatic has a 5 minute start where he or she can get positioned wherever he or she wishes, then the other team consisting of over 10 members goes out and try’s to hunt him. Superman can not be eliminated. The only way he or she can loose is if the opposing team grabs his flag and holds it for 10 minutes. The other team can be eliminated as usually. * Tip* you will really want a chest protector if you are superman!!!
”Terminator” similar to Superman but single player wears tape somewhere on his body, usually on chest, and is only eliminated if this "Weak spot" is hit.
18. Hostage
Objective - Team Elimination or rescue the hostage
One team defends a fortification of some kind with a hostage inside from the other team. The hostage is obviously unarmed. The team holding the hostage cannot leave the fortification. It is the job of the second team to rescue the hostage. The team holding the hostage may not shoot the hostage. The hostage may not move until touched by a member of the rescue team. The game is won by the defending team if the hostage is shot by the other team. The game is won by the rescue team if the hostage is removed from the fortification.
19. Predator
Objective - Elimination
Start the game with two teams, twice as many players on one team than the other. The teams with the fewest players are the predators, and the other team is the prey. When a predator is shot, he is dead and out of the game, however when a prey is shot he becomes a predator. When either all the Predators are dead or all the prey is dead is when the game is over.
20. Flag Monger
Objective - Capture all flags
Each person starts with 1 flag on their body and 2 flags back at a designated starting point. Each person is on their own and must hunt the other players to try and confiscate their flag. When a person is hit they must relinquish their flag to the person that shot them and go back to the starting point for another flag. When the player runs out of flags they are eliminated from the game. If a person has multiple flags on them when they are hit they must relinquish all of the flags to the person that hit them. The person with all the flags wins the game. No limit on the amount of ammo or players in the game.
21. Slaughterhouse
Objective - Elimination
There are 2 teams. One team is unarmed and the other is armed with as many paintballs as they want. The Unarmed team tries to get from one side of the field to the other side with as few casualties as possible. The Armed team gets to position themselves at spots along the path that the unarmed team will take. Once the Unarmed team gets to the other side or is totally eliminated, the two teams switch places and the Unarmed now try to take out the other team. Both teams should have the same amount of players.
22. V.I.P.
Objective - Elimination
Three players playing 1 vs. 2 the one person hides in the woods. One of the two are equipped with four paintballs, the V.I.P. the other one gets a full load. The V.I.P. runs from point A to point B. The other person on his team guards him. The V.I.P. can't get shot more than twice.
23. Traitor
Objective – Elimination
"Traitor" What you do is start off with two teams. This is when we just try to eliminate the other team. After one team is eliminated the winning team breaks up. Here it is every man for himself. The last person alive at the end is the winner.
24. The Chair
Objective - Not to get shot
You need an open field, cover helps but also open space is needed too you have this chair in the middle of the field, its every man for them selves starting all over the fields edges the goal is to get to the chair and sit in to with out getting taken out before u get there.
25. Gladiator
Objective - Elimination or goal
One person is picked to be the shooter. The shooter gets to find a high spot somewhere on a small field. My friends and I use a large fence post. Then the rest of the people have to run across the field lengthwise. The rest of the people do not get guns, only the shooter. The runners should be running parallel to the shooter not away from him or towards him. The shooters can not use a automatic or it will be over too fast. This game may seem like a suicide run but you would be surprised on how many people make it across the field. Who ever makes it to the other side without getting hit the fastest wins! The winner is the next shooter
26. Dual
Objectives - Elimination
"Dual" Basically a dual is for 2 players. To "dual" you should remove your loaders (if possible)and carry 2 paintballs (1 in your gun, 1 in your pocket). Then you should stand back to back with your opponent and simultaneously take 15 paces forward. Then, on the fifteenth pace you may both turn and fire. The game is like an old-fashioned dual, to win you must get the other guy. If you both miss your shots you have to try again.
27. Medic
Objective - Elimination
"Medic" In this game you need to get 2 teams with an equal number of players. Then you have 1 'medic' for every 5 players. (The medic can't carry a marker) When the game starts one team has to eliminate the other team, but here's the catch; if you are hit you must stay where you are and call over a 'medic.' When the medic gets to you he must tie a band on your arm and you must clean the paint off of yourself. After this process is completed you are 'alive' again, but you may only be 'healed' by a medic 2 times. If the medic is hit once, he is out, and medics cannot 'heal' each other.
28. Alien
Objective - Elimination
The alien team gets 1-3 players. The human team should be much larger than the alien team. If an alien shoots a human, the human becomes a member of the alien team. Each alien can take three hits before being eliminated.
29. Collectors
Objective - Goal or Elimination
There are two teams of 10 (you can compromise the number of teammates with the amount of ammo or the lack of players). Each team should have one base/headquarters there are also thirty flags. The two teams start off on either end of the field. When the first whistle blows each team starts collecting flags. Another whistle will sound within two minutes. Then each team will just charge in and out and bring flags back to there main base/headquarters. The enemy team members are allowed to enter your area and just take one flag at a time to there base/headquarters. When a player is shot they have to stop and drop the flag on the ground and walk back to there base and start over again. The first team to get all thirty flags wins.

30. Recon Team
Objective - Goal or Elimination
About 2-8 players are selected to be recon and the rest are the conventional army. (The conventional army should outnumber the RT at least 4 to 1,). The conventional army has a password written in bold letters on cardboard or whatever in there base that stood up like a sign. The RT's objective is to sneak in find out the password and get all live RT members to the predestinated extraction zone to win. The conventional army can not camp the password point. They can only post 1-2 guards. The rest must be patrolling looking for the team. The conventional army’s objective is to eliminate all members of the RT. The password must be visible from a reasonable distance, enough so that the RT doesn't necessarily have to make contact with the guards.
31. Trophy Hunter
Objective - Goal or Elimination
Each player gets (5) arm bands. They must all be on the left arm. The players spread out on the field and wait for the horn. There are two cycles in the game - playing and collecting. You have a five minute playing period followed by a five minute collecting period. The game runs 35 minutes. Every player is fending for themselves. The horn sounds and you try and hit an opponent. This lasts for five minutes. If you are hit, you put the barrel plug in your gun and hang out where you were hit until the horn sounds again. Once you are hit in one five minute period, another player may not shoot you. The horn sounds again, now you may collect any arm bands from the players you hit. You have just five minutes to collect arm bands and find a good place to start the next cycle of the game. If you don't have any arm bands left after a collection period, you are out of the game. If you were not hit and did not hit a player, you need to find a good starting spot during the collection period.
(Horn sounds) - 5 minutes of play
(Horn sounds) - 5 minutes of collection/lose arm band/find new starting spot
(Horn sounds) - 5 minutes of play
(Horn sounds) - collection/lose arm band
Once the final horn sounds, you may collect any arm bands from players you hit or wait until the player that hit you takes your arm band. You may then leave the field. The player with the most arm bands at the end of the game wins.
32. Fugitive
Objective - Goal or Elimination
One player is the fugitive and the rest are cops (2-20). The fugitive wears a flag, all the cops hunt down the fugitive, the fugitive try’s to eliminate all the cops or get across the border. If the fugitive gets shot he drops the flag and runs to his base, when he gets to his base he reinserts and continues to play, and try’s to get his flag back. If a cop gets shot he is eliminated. If the fugitive is shot w/o his flag on he is eliminated. The game ends when all the cops are eliminated, the fugitive is eliminated, the fugitive makes it across the border, or the time limit is up (5-15mins).
33. Freeze Ball
Objective - Goal
Two teams of equal size. The catch is if you get shot you are frozen. To become unfrozen, one of your own teammates must come and touch you. Game ends when all opponents are frozen. Unlimited paintballs and no time limit.
34. Sonar
Objective - Elimination
This works best in pitch blackness but any sort of nighttime-type environment is fine. Each player wears an armband to which is affixed several bicycle reflectors in two colors, one color for each team. Additionally, each player carries a flashlight with which they may "ping" other players by quickly turning the flashlight on and then off (hence "sonar") the reflectors worn by each player reflect a successful ping and reveal their position and team orientation to the pinger. Pinging does revealed your position but it doesn't give away what team you're on. Thus, those who rely too much on their "sonar" are more easily eliminated. You may want to specify that pinging should only be a brief burst from a flashlight but if you want to make the game move a bit quicker you can allow "active" sonar which is basically allowing players to leave their flashlights on for as long as they feel like getting shot at. You may need to fine tune the game to fit your playing style but it's at least a great excuse not to go home once it gets dark. This is easily converted to a "last man standing" style variation by making all reflectors of the same color.
35. Frenzy
Objective - Goal
Preferred on an open field, what you do is you divided up into two equal teams one team has an arm band, then one team lines up on one side of the field and the other on the opposite side then you place a flag in the center of the field. When the whistle is blown both teams run for the center flag, but the catch is that you can only shoot the player with the flag, if you shoot a player without the flag you must go back to the starting line, once you are hit you must drop the flag and return to your starting point before reentering the game, first team to make it back to the starting point gets the point and the flag is placed in the center for another round.
36. Metal Gear Solid
Objective - Goal
First off, find the best player (or two) and have them go up against every one else. The rules are pretty simple: Everybody on the opposing team has to patrol a certain area and cannot move from that general area (usually about a sixty area, smaller if there are more people.), The one or two "Snakes" has to reach flag station in order to win. The "Snake" player has a couple advantages over the sentries: They can take between five and ten shots before getting out (depending on the number of sentries), while the sentries need only to be hit once, the sentries also only have ten balls in their hoppers; also the "Snake" players can hold up a sentry if they get within ten feet of them, take anything of the sentry's that they want and then shoot the sentry's shoe, or some other safe place (since you are at point blank range, you have to shoot them somewhere where it won't hurt.) Of course, the Snake players can pick off the sentries from a distance as well. The "Snakes" have to reach the flag station to win, even if the opposing team is wiped out. This is a very fun game and is great for practicing your sniping and stealth.
37. Downed Pilot
Objective - Goal
This is a search and rescue type game, it’s like an exercise of rescuing a downed pilot. The way to play it is, you insert a volunteer into a random spot in the field that is not favoring either team. One team will play the enemy, which tries to kidnap the volunteer and successfully take him to their base without letting the volunteer being shot by anyone. The other team will attempt to rescue the volunteer, and also successfully return the person to their base. But it must be done within an hour. The volunteer can attempt to run to his team when they are close enough but if he does the other team can shoot at him. The volunteer must be unarmed and cannot resist capture from the enemy team.
38. Soldier
Objective - Elimination
It is pretty basic. If someone is hit in a leg or arm (BLUE AREA) they are no longer allowed to use that limb. Feet and hands also are the same. So if u get hit in both of your arms it is a good idea to surrender. If the person is hit in the torso or head (RED AREA) they must leave the field. To add a twist, if a player is hit in the gun they can no longer use that weapon, unless they have a backup weapon they are out. At anytime someone can choose to surrender and leave.

39. Tiki Torch
Objective - Elimination or Goal
There are no flags and you don't have to eliminate every person on either team. The game is meant to be played at night. The objective is to put out the tiki torches. There are two teams, offense and defense. Defense is considerably larger than offense, they guard the tiki torches. Defense has no limitation to their arsenals. Offense is composed of a team ranging from 5 too 10. They must go around and put out the tiki torches. Sound hard?
40. Allied Rescue
Objective - Elimination or Goal
This game is to be played with an odd number of players. One person is the downed pilot (unarmed); split the rest of the people into two equal teams. One team is the Enemy and one team is the Allies. Each team selects a commander (without the other team knowing who it is), the commander of each team is given a whistle, the whistle should be tucked in so the other team doesn't know who the commander is. Both teams start at their fortified base and have to get to the pilot first. Who ever gets the pilot first must get the pilot back to their base. If the Allies get the pilot first and successfully return him to their base the commander and only the commander blows the whistle and the game ends. BUT if the Enemies get the pilot back to their base and blow the whistle each team takes a 5 minute cease-fire so the Allies can make a plan and Enemies to refortify their base. After the 5 minutes is up the game starts again. The Allied team has to get the pilot and return him to their base. There are two ways to end the game at this point. Either eliminates the allied team or the allies rescue the pilot and get him to their base safe. The downed pilot can’t be shot by the enemy while being held captive, any player shot goes back to their base and starts again.
41. Pin Paintball
Objective - Goal
You have two teams, each team has a pin and as many paintballs as they need. The pin needs to be placed on a tree stump or some type of plate. There should be a good supply of cover and fox holes. When the buzzer sounds each team takes cover and plays until the pin is knocked down or the other team is eliminated (the pin should have a guard at all times that isn’t afraid to get hit)
42. Respawn
Objective - Goal
The game is won by points. Points are earned by the amount of time one team occupies a center bunker. One point =One Minute, two points=2minutes etc... Game last 30 minutes, when players are eliminated they return to their starting point and reenter the game. Both teams can occupy the scoring bunker as long as they each have at least one team member at the base. Ref’s will keep time and points of both teams.
43. Bunker Lines
Objective - Goal
This game is where you have a center bunker and two teams of equal members. Each member of each team gets a permanent marker. One team one color and the other team the other color, each team try’s to get to the center bunker and put a mark on the wall, ceiling, etc. Once a member puts a mark they have to return to their starting point. They then get to try and get back to the center bunker and put another mark. At the end of the game each team goes and counts their team’s marks. Each mark is worth 1point. In the case of a tie, you play that the first team to make a mark wins. NOTE: can be played with no teams.
44. Shoot the Bucket
Objective - Elimination
There are two teams and two buckets, one per team. When a player is hit he goes to the opposite team's "jail cell" until one of his teammates shoots the opposite team's bucket over. The game last until there is only one team left standing.
Variations: No guards, more teams, and/or a time limit.
45. Flag Ring
Objective - Elimination
This game is played with two teams. On team is in a large ring of barricades and must remain inside the ring, the other team is outside of the ring. They must get two flags positioned just outside of the ring. There is a 15 minute time limit and it is extremely hard to get the flags without getting knocked out, single elimination.
46. Tag
Objective - Elimination
This game is kind of like medic but a little different there are two even teams when you are hit any member on from any team can come over and tag you back in the game on that team that tagged you in.
47. Parachute Regiment
Objective - Elimination
You team A and team B. You divide team A into groups (maybe 3 or 4 to a group, depending on the size of your team). These groups are your Parachute Regiments. The ref. places the Regiments where ever he wants. They shouldn't be too far apart, though. Team A's job is to capture Team B's flag and vice versa. Here's the catch. Since Team A has the Parachute Regiment, when a team member is eliminated, they go to their "landing point" and start over.
48. Night of the Living Dead
Objective - Elimination
Divide into two teams in a ratio of 1 ZOMBIE to every 3-4 TOWNFOLK, ZOMBIE team must be identifiable by arm band or whatever and ALL players must carry a similar armband. Game consists of all ZOMBIES getting a 5 minute head start to hide. Then the TOWNFOLK try to hunt down and eliminate all ZOMBIES. ZOMBIES can only be killed by a HEAD SHOT. Anyone shot by a ZOMBIE becomes a ZOMBIE and must put on an armband. Game ends when all zombies or townsfolk are eliminated.
49. RLH-Run Like Hell
Objective - Elimination
(NO TEAMS) At the start two players have guns, the rest don't. The two with guns have five minutes before the game starts to get a vantage point. The other players guns have been hidden by the refs before the two players with guns go out. When the game starts the players without guns have to run like hell to not get shot and find their guns.
50. Special Forces
Objective - Elimination
You divide up into 2 teams, it should be a 3 to 1 ration. So the Special Forces team will end up with less compared to the army. Then you put a flag within a small tower, bunker, or a small circle of trees. The flag must be placed within a region of your field that will be the designated enemy base. Both teams must be aware where the flag is. The army cannot come within 30 feet of the flag, until the SF get hold of it. When SF members are shot, they are captured, and are put in a designated jail. In jail the gun is unloaded and the hopper is placed on the ground, they can be rescued by other SF members, and their guns reissued. It is two shots needed to kill an army member. Now when the SF gets the flag they must make it out to the extraction point. If half the SF team is captured the game is over. This is best played 3 to 9, with 150 paintballs per member, and no time limit.
